The strategic railway network project between Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is set to become fully operational by 2028. This ambitious initiative aims to enhance connectivity and facilitate transportation between the two neighboring countries. The project will commence with an initial phase focused on conducting a comprehensive study of the proposed route, which will originate from the Al Shaddadiya area in Kuwait and extend through Riyadh city in Saudi Arabia. This phase is expected to begin within the next three months and will lay the groundwork for subsequent phases. Following the completion of the study, the project will move into the design phase, which is projected to take approximately one year to finalize. Once the design is complete, the implementation and construction phase will commence, with an estimated duration of three years. Ministry officials have indicated that all necessary procedures and approvals for the first phase are nearing completion, signaling progress towards the project’s realization. Upon completion in 2028, the railway network will significantly reduce travel time between Kuwait City and Riyadh, with estimates suggesting a travel time of just two hours between the two cities. This project underscores the commitment of both Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to strengthen bilateral ties and promote economic development through enhanced transportation infrastructure.
