On Friday, both the Punjab and Balochistan Assemblies made significant moves by passing resolutions to declare Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto as a “martyred and national hero,” aligning with the Supreme Court’s opinion in a presidential reference.
In the Punjab Assembly, PPP leader Ali Haider Gilani spearheaded the resolution, which received majority approval. Likewise, the Balochistan Assembly unanimously passed a resolution jointly presented by members of the Pakistan People’s Party and Balochistan Awami Party, acknowledging Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s status as a “martyred” national hero.
The resolutions advocated for the official declaration of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto as a “national hero” as per the Supreme Court’s pronouncement in the presidential reference. Meanwhile, the Sindh Assembly also made a similar move by passing a resolution to honor former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto as a national hero and to bestow Nishan-e-Bhutto upon political activists who made significant sacrifices for democracy’s reinstatement.
Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, introduced this resolution on March 7, further solidifying Bhutto’s legacy as a symbol of courage and democracy in the nation’s history.
