Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, upon assuming office, has made it clear that strengthening the bond between Pakistan and China is a top priority, particularly focusing on advancing the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) through robust collaboration. Expressing gratitude for President Xi Jinping’s congratulatory message, Shehbaz underscored the importance of mutual cooperation between the two nations. In an interview with Xinhua at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad, he reiterated the deep-rooted friendship between Pakistan and China, often referred to as “iron brothers.” Shehbaz also highlighted the potential for Pakistan to learn from China’s development model to address poverty and unemployment. Looking ahead, Shehbaz emphasized the significance of the next phase of CPEC, with a particular focus on technology and agriculture. Initiatives such as the Special Investment Facilitation Council are expected to play a vital role in streamlining project implementation and maximizing the benefits of CPEC for both countries.
