In Saudi Arabia, the body overseeing accommodation for Muslim pilgrims during the Hajj season in Makkah has granted approval for the use of 1,860 buildings, capable of housing approximately 1.2 million pilgrims. Deputy Governor of Makkah, Prince Saud bin Meshal, has extended the deadline for landlords to apply for licensing their buildings until May 8th. It is anticipated that the number of buildings available for pilgrims in Makkah will eventually exceed 5,000. Last year, nearly 2 million pilgrims traveled to Makkah for Hajj, marking a return to pre-pandemic levels of attendance. Saudi Arabia has outlined regulations for this year’s Hajj season in June, stressing the importance of early preparations. Minister of Hajj, Tawfiq Al Rabiah, stated that specific areas will not be designated for individual countries at the holy sites in Saudi Arabia. Instead, allocations will be made based on contractual agreements. Hajj visas are slated to be available from March 1st to April 29th, with pilgrims expected to begin arriving on May 9th.
