Pakistan’s Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has chosen Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman as its new emir for the next five years, following the results of intra-party elections on Thursday. Qaisar Sharif, the Central Information Secretary of JI, revealed that more than 45,000 party members participated in the voting process to determine the new emir. Naeem secured over 80% of the votes, making him the sixth emir of the party. According to Sharif, Naeem will lead the party until 2029. Stressing the party’s commitment to democratic principles, Sharif highlighted that JI’s constitution mandates regular elections at all levels, ensuring that the organization remains independent of any individual or family influence. The elections witnessed the participation of approximately 46,000 JI members nationwide, signaling a robust engagement within the party’s democratic processes.
