Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has unveiled ambitious plans to revolutionize Karachi’s public transport system, announcing the implementation of an automated system on two routes of the People’s Bus Service slated to commence next month. In a recent press conference held in the city’s bustling port area, Minister Memon detailed how prepaid cards would soon be compatible with the Green Line and Orange Line services, streamlining the ticketing process for passengers. With the successful rollout of this automated system on initial routes, Minister Memon aims to extend its benefits across all routes, emphasizing the convenience it would offer passengers who can utilize the same prepaid cards across various public transport options. Moreover, he revealed plans for the imminent launch of the People’s Bus Service in Mirpurkhas, signaling a significant expansion of accessible transportation services beyond Karachi. Looking ahead, Minister Memon outlined a post-Eid-ul-Fitr initiative to bolster Karachi’s public transport fleet, with an increase in the number of buses servicing diverse routes. Additionally, he disclosed plans for the introduction of two new routes dedicated to electric buses, underscoring a commitment to sustainable transport solutions. Against the backdrop of a substantial daily ridership exceeding 100,000 individuals on the People’s Bus Service, Minister Memon emphasized the government’s ongoing dedication to enhancing public transport services in the region, promising improved accessibility, efficiency, and environmental sustainability for commuters across Karachi and beyond.
