Amidst growing safety concerns, Karachi Commissioner Saleem Rajput has taken a decisive step by implementing a two-month ban on kite-flying and the sale of string in the port city. This measure, enacted under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), prohibits the production, sale, and operation of kites throughout Karachi from March 30 to May 29. The ban comes in response to a surge in tragic incidents caused by the lethal kite string, which has already resulted in eight injuries. The decision underscores the grave risks associated with kite-flying activities, particularly the use of hazardous metal strings. Commissioner Rajput emphasized the paramount importance of protecting citizens’ lives, prompting the imposition of the ban as a preventive measure. By imposing this prohibition, city authorities aim to mitigate kite-flying incidents and improve the safety and security of residents. This action reflects a proactive approach to addressing public safety concerns and underscores the authorities’ commitment to safeguarding the well-being of Karachi’s populace.
