Less than two weeks after the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup general ticket sales began, reports from US media outlets reveal a rapid influx of tickets onto resale platforms like StubHub and SeatGeek. These tickets, priced comparably to premier sporting events such as NBA or Major League Baseball games, are in high demand, particularly for matches like Pakistan vs India in New York on June 9 and India vs Canada on June 15 in Lauderhill, which have already sold out. Resale prices for these matches have surged to double or even triple their original face value, with VIP tickets for the Pakistan vs India match listed for over $40,000 each, reaching totals exceeding $50,000 with fees. On platforms like StubHub, the cheapest available ticket is $1,259, while on SeatGeek, prices soar to nearly $175,000. Despite efforts by the managing committee, many fans find themselves unable to secure tickets for their desired matches due to overwhelming demand. Fawwaz Baksh, the tournament director, acknowledges this reality, emphasizing the challenge of accommodating everyone’s preferences. However, he remains optimistic that tickets may become available for certain matches if sponsors and stakeholders return tickets to the pool. Baksh advises prospective attendees to remain vigilant and monitor the ticket portal for opportunities to secure tickets amidst the fervent demand.
