A groundbreaking milestone was achieved at Karachi’s Jinnah Hospital as doctors performed robotic surgery to address diabetes and obesity, a first in Pakistan. Led by Professor Shahid Rasool, the hour-long operation reduced stomach and large intestine sizes, aiding digestion and weight loss for a 45-year-old diabetic patient. This innovative approach eliminates the need for diabetes medication in most cases, offering promising outcomes for 70% of patients. Since September 2023, Jinnah Hospital has conducted 135 robotic surgeries across various specialties, showcasing advancements in medical technology. Robotic surgery’s precision, three-dimensional vision, and reduced invasiveness mark a significant leap in healthcare.
