“Federal Health Authorities Warn of Restrictions on Pakistani Medical Graduates Trained Abroad”

In a recent update, federal health authorities have alerted the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) regarding potential restrictions on Pakistani medical graduates who have received training abroad. The concern stems from the lack of recognition of certain medical colleges and institutions by accreditation bodies in the host countries. Federal Health Secretary Iftikhar Shallwani highlighted that a significant number of Pakistani students studying in medical colleges abroad face this recognition issue. To address this, a deadline is being imposed for these institutions to obtain accreditation from their host countries. After this deadline, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) will not recognize the medical degrees issued by these institutions. Secretary Shallwani conveyed these concerns to WFME President Ricardo León-Bórquez, who has pledged full support to the PMDC in resolving this issue. This development underscores the importance of ensuring the accreditation and recognition of medical education institutions to maintain the quality and integrity of medical training and practice.
