A Saudi state agency overseeing the Prophet’s Mosque, Islam’s second holiest site, has introduced a user-friendly app to aid worshippers in navigating prayer areas seamlessly. Named the ‘Status of Prayer Places’ at the Prophet’s Mosque, this innovative service offers real-time updates on the occupancy levels at various prayer locations within the mosque, empowering users to plan their visits efficiently and avoid overcrowding. Available in Arabic, English, and Urdu, the app employs color-coded indicators to signify the capacity status of prayer areas, particularly during peak times. Green denotes ‘available,’ yellow indicates ‘crowded,’ pink signifies ‘full,’ and grey represents ‘unavailable.’ This service not only streamlines entry and exit for worshippers but also supports effective crowd management strategies, particularly during Ramadan, the ongoing Islamic holy month. With Ramadan witnessing heightened Umrah activity at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, many pilgrims subsequently travel to Medina to offer prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque and explore other significant Islamic sites in the city.
