“Analyzing Cost Discrepancies: NHA’s Comparison of Highway Construction Expenses Across Government Tenures”

The information provided from the National Highway Authority (NHA) website indicates a substantial difference in the cost of construction per kilometer for highways and motorways during different government tenures.

For four-lane national highways, the average construction cost per kilometer from 2014 to 2018 was Rs411.078 million, while from 2019 to 2021, it decreased significantly to Rs173.515 million per kilometer. Similarly, for four-lane motorways, the cost was much higher from 2013 to 2018 at Rs606.044 million per kilometer compared to Rs385.292 million per kilometer from 2018 onwards.

This data suggests a notable decrease in construction costs during the latter government tenure. Such variations may be attributed to changes in policies, procurement processes, technological advancements, or other factors influencing construction expenses. The substantial difference in costs highlights the importance of efficient resource utilization and cost-effectiveness in infrastructure development projects.
